Northpower Fibre proud sponsors of the Best Broadband Fibre Provider Award
Northpower Fibre is a wholly New Zealand-owned consumer trust company providing fibre infrastructure in the WhangÄrei and Kaipara regions of the North Island of New Zealand.
Our purpose is to âConnect Northland to the worldâ and we exist to improve the wellbeing of our communities and customers and we do this through our people and partnerships.
Northpower fibre was the first company set up under the Government UFB initiative in 2010 and was the first local fibre company to start construction and we also completed the first fully built city in NZ in 2014.
Under the UFB2 initiative Northpower Fibre expanded its network by 50% and included 14 extra towns in the Northland region. The entire network was completed in 2020 and further extensions as part of the spade ready initiative were completed by the end of 2021.
We may be the smallest of NZ LFCs with around a market value of $100M, however we pride ourselves on being a challenger brand with itan innovative team, focussed on delivering the best experience for our customers the âRetail Service Providersâ and the consumers connected to our network.
Northpower Fibre was created by Northlanders, for Northlanders, which means we live, work, and play in the area we service, and the value we create is  returned to our local community to help make a true difference with an intergenerational asset. Our consumers are also our owners, and we put Northland first by re-investing our profits for the benefit of our region directly.
We pride ourselves on bringing the best of technology to the communities we serve and in 2017 we received international recognition by collecting the Innovation in Next Generation Services award, in the Calix Innovation Awards for deploying NGPON2 in a live network.
The size of our network makes us an ideal âsandpitâ to trial new technology and business models, and our partnership with provider Calix has seen such trials happen. Â It has provided us with world-leading modern technology and enabled Northpower Fibreâs network to be the test ground for technology that has since been deployed across large international telcos, such as Verizon in the USA and City Fibre in the UK.
One of the most important opportunities to come from fibre involves changing the future educational outcomes in the region. Our sponsorship of the Taitokerau Education Trust is helping to ensure that those most in need receive digital devices and we have helped enable professional development for the teaching fraternity . This means schools and students  are able to participate, with their whanau, in a digital learning programme based upon the successful  Manaiakalani Education Trust in Auckland. We are excited about reducing the digital divide, providing equity and the opportunities this will bring for our young people in the future.
Alongside trusted partnerships and collaboration, innovation is at the heart of our business. Today we work alongside 25 Retail Service Providers in the region, and we value each of them. We see this award as an opportunity to recognise and applaud the efforts of the Retail Service Providers, large and small.
In the space of a few years, the Northpower Fibre network has attracted dozens of Retail Service Providers who are offering competitive packages for those connected to our network. With choice comes the opportunity for our community to really get ahead.
You don't have to be the biggest to be the best and we are excited to be part of the NZ landscape.
So, we say a big âThank youâ to our Retail Service Providers for their belief in a fibre future, connecting customers and enabling them to embrace the benefits of ultra-fast fibre broadband.
