Aug 29, 2024

Did you know there is a creature draining power in your home? That's right! Learn how to prevent vamire power.

Did you know that there is a monster lurking in your home? It’s silent, stealthy and it is draining power and money without your knowledge?

We hate to break it to you, but vampire power is a phenomenon in every home. It is otherwise known as standby mode, and it can be costing you an unnecessary amount of money!

What is Vampire Power?

When you leave a device plugged in at the wall, after you have finished using it, the device or appliance will go into what’s called standby mode – or vampire power. For example, when you turn off the TV, there will be a small amount of electricity used to power the remote control sensor, and the tiny red LED light that most TVs display when they are turned off. Or, if you leave your phone charger plugged in and switched on at the wall, it will consume a small amount of power. While this may seem like tiny, insignificant amounts of power, it can absolutely add up over time. Vampire power can be responsible for up to $100 of power per year!

How Can You Combat Vampire Power?

Vampire power is sneaky, and sometimes you can’t always avoid it. But it is always a good idea to turn a device or appliance off at the wall if you are not using it. If you go away, even for a few days, it’s a good idea to turn things off at the wall. For example, turn off your washing machine and TV at the wall. Unplug lamps and power points that don’t need to be on.
