Did you know that different types of lightbulbs can use more energy, and cost you more money to shine? Find out which light bulb is more energy and cost efficient!

Lights and lighting have the power to alter the mood and vibe of a room or home. It can be bold and vibrant, or glittering and warm. There are a couple of different types of light bulbs in New Zealand. It’s a good idea to understand the differences between them, and which ones are the most energy efficient. That way, you can shine on without draining your power bill!

LED Light Bulbs

They have a long life and are highly energy efficient, especially compared to other traditional light bulbs. They require far less electricity to shine, saving you money on your power bill.

They are suitable for general home lighting – meaning they work for overhead lights, your peculiar lamp, and come in a range of sizes, so you can even play with strip or string LED lights.

LED light bulbs are perfect for being able to express your style and taste. They can come in colour ranges from cool white to warm white. You can even get colour changing smart bulbs that can shine any colour of the rainbow at the touch of a phone app button. They can even be connected to voice assistants!

CFL bulbs - Compact Fluorescent Lamps

While not as energy efficient as LEDs, CFL bulbs are a great start for energy saving lighting if you don’t have access to LEDs. They also have the iconic curved tube design.

It’s important to note that these bulbs contain mercury, so it’s best to not put them in a spot where they might easily break, such as a lamp that could be knocked over.

Halogen Light Bulbs - Next Gen Halogen Globes

These light bulbs are great for their long life time and durables, lasting twice as long as traditional incandescent bulbs. However, they use about 5 times more electricity than LEDs and CFLs. They still save more energy than incandescent bulbs, though.

For those who wish for simple customisation, these bulbs can be dimmed.
