5 Ways Honour the Women in your Life with NZ Compare
Mar 3, 2025

Celebrate International Women's Day this year with these 5 ideas!

International Women’s Day is coming up on the 8th March and it is an annual holiday celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Take this day as an opportunity to remind the ladies in your life — your sisters, partners, friends, mum, grandmothers, teachers — how much you love and appreciate them.

We have put together 5 ways you can honour the women in your life to celebrate International Women’s Day right!

1. Watch a Movie about Women, by Women!

An easy way to honour the women in your life, and in wider society is to snuggle up on the couch and stream a movie or TV show about women, made by women! This is a great way to learn about women's stories and experiences and support the creators of those forms of media.

Our favourites include Little Women, Six Triple Eight, Wonder Women, and Clueless!

Be sure to check you have the right fibre speed for streaming. Use our broadband speed calculator to see what fibre speed your household needs based on the number of devices in your home, and online activities you do. It’s important to be on the right speed. You don’t want to have a buffering internet, nor do you want to pay for more than you need.

2. Make her a Meal

Plan and prepare her favourite meal. Be sure to shop for the ingredients, cook the meal, and clean up after yourself so she doesn’t have to lift a finger. You could even make the meal extra special by setting up the dining table with flowers and candle arrangements. Pop on her favourite music in the background. Cooking her favourite meal, just how she likes it, can be a gentle and special way to remind her how much she means to you.

3. Write Her a Letter

Writing a letter is a timeless way to express your feelings for someone, even in a way that isn’t romantic. Write down all the reasons why you love and appreciate her. Acknowledge her achievements and the things that make you proud. Pop the letter in an envelope and consider delivering it to her in a creative way. Drop it in her mail box. Bring it to her with coffee in the morning. She will love the time and thought you have put into it.

4. Host a High Tea

Gather the girls together and set up a lovely afternoon high tea. You can make this extra special by baking some treats, making little sandwiches and dips, and brewing a range of different teas and coffees. Whether you are a woman yourself wanting to celebrate with your friends, or a man who wishes to set this up for your wife or partner, it is a wonderful way to honour the day.

5. Trivia Night

Have a fun trivia night with your family and friends. Focus the trivia questions on game-changing women of history and pop culture. This can be a fun way to learn about important women figures and honour them! You could also enhance the night by making dinner, serving yummy drinks, and spending quality time with the women in your life.
